What now, a butter ban?

Butter should be banned to protect the nation's health, according to a leading heart surgeon. Shyam Kolvekar says only radical action can save growing numbers of young adults from heart attacks and clogged arteries
As I sat that the kitchen table last night eating Mr FMs special bread & butter pudding (its like normal bread & butter pudding but without the bread), I had cause to consider if the sort of radical action i.e. ban being advocated by Mr Kolvekar is the same sort of radical action that is required to save the polar bears? Given that statistically Mr Kolvekar & the rest of the medical profession have a greater chance of being either a drug addict, an alcoholic or possibly both, isn’t it about time that they started to practice the old adage of what’s good for the goose is good for the gander?
In fact & please forgive the pun, I am heartily sick of the health warnings that emanate from the bowls of the medical profession in such a monotonous & dysentery like fashion. If we aren’t being lectured about the quantum of booze that we are driven to, to numb the searing pain of living in Blighty as it rapidly approaches failed nation status, its the likes of Mr Kolvekar demanding an immediate reduction in consumer choice. However it is also worth noting that
Mr Kolvekar’s comments were issued by KTB, a public relations company that works for Unilever, the maker of Flora margarine
I have no doubt that there is absolutely no connection here

A number of years ago one of our TV news magazine shows, '60 minutes' did a bit on the "French Paradox". The French smoke like chimneys, eat food rich in fats and BUTTER yet do not seem to have the coronary problems the rest do. The reason is that red wine is good for you. The anti-oxidants in red wine, which the French start drinking from childnood counteracts the bad stuff. Perhaps the good doctor needs to take a chill pill washed down with a good glass of bordeaux.

Flog them, then hang them. Then perhaps busybodies like this Kolvekar toad will be a little more circumspect before they presume to micromanage our lives on such thin and unconvincing proof.

Rather than calling for butter to be banned, Mr Kolvekar should turn his attentions to getting insiduous & dangerous trans-fats banned from foods. Unlike butter, which is an important ingredient in proper cooking, trans-fats benefit no-one except the food industry.

No conflict of interest there. He just did it for the sake of the children.
