Why exactly?

A woman convicted of murder who went on the run from hospital during an escorted visit to shops has been arrested in south London

Patricia%20Gillette.jpg

Patricia Gillette, 41, was arrested on Sunday morning in Streatham after officers saw her in Churchmore Road. Gillette, who was being held at Bethlem Royal Hospital, was on a visit to shops in West Wickham High Street, Bromley, when she escaped on Friday afternoon

Let me see here, Ms Gillette has been indefinitely detained in Bethlem Royal Hospital which is a legal euphemism for being sent to the nut house because she is stark raving bonkers & not only that, but she has been convicted of murder & yet we have a penal system that allows her to go shopping. The more you look, the less you understand.

No, it's perfectly understandable if you think of it in the proper context:

1/ the inmates are running the asylum

2/ the west is trying to cut its own throat with a spoon

3/ we have stepped through the looking glass where everything is upside down.

Take your pick!

You guys are so right.

Why, compared to the perfect sanity of the human race throughout its past history this is a truly insane era.

Indeed, just recently, while idling away a few hours in the Madrid sun alternating cafe con leche with cerveza frio to stay more or less sober...or is it cerveza fria...ah well, the waiter understood...where was I? Ah yes, idling and thinking of the perfect insanity and horribleness of my life compared, well, say with my dad, or his dad, the one machine gunned at Verdun, the other machine gunned in the Bay of Biscay in a naval action. Their society was mostly sane and normal. Both survived, thank you.

I thought of the entirely sane way my medieval and old Teutonic ancestors lived, what with wandering, killing and being killed, looting and being looted and I made odious comparisons with my crazy life. Surely, I thought, the Huns are just around the corner. Oh wait, I am of hunnish descent. Perhaps some great grandson of Genghis then, whatever, I just knew I was seriously at risk.

Then I fear, cafe con leche or no, I fell asleep in the sun. A crazed Spanish maniac woke me and brandished a knife at me. A fork too, and he brought me jamon and patatas bravas, but so what?

By all of which I mean, yeah we do some stupid things, but the sky is not falling, there are nuts everywhere and always have been, and always will be forever and ever amen.

"If God, in His infinite wisdom, chose to limit
human intelligence, why did He not chose to limit
human stupidity"

Hell...she was given a good working over with the ugly stick wasn't she/it?

Colour me saddened, but no longer surprised.
