Scotland Stalking 8: The Final Day

I suppose that there is just time for one more (& final) post on Scotland & our last day in the hill when YHC & Chuckmeister accounted for a total of eight beasts. By the time we got back to the game larder, the back of the stalker’s Land Rover was looking a little full

Of course the deer had been gralloched on the hill, but even so & even in the hands of a consummate professional, fully dressing out the carcases can take a little time. However, it is how the meat is handled at this stage that will go a long way to determining its quality later on. & on that particular topic, I am pleased to report that the freezer is now quite full & the eating of the venison will commence this evening

Hmmm. Dog sized deer? Great Plains American White Tails are more sporting to stalk, shoot and need a 30-06 or better to bring down.

On the other hand they are larger than the avg. Texas deer. You won't have to turn them completely into sausage, and there is enough hide to get more than one glove.
Given the climate and vegetation it looks like someone is doing good game herd management.

There is nothing small about 120 pound dressed out carcasses!
If you want small then come way down south to Muntjac country!
The reds in scotland whilst not our largest deer or even our largest red deer (Thetford forest holds that record) would certainly ruin your paintjob should you try and nudge one of the road!
I'd say they are as good as whitetail and black tail in size!

Yea .. they are a bit bigger than Alaska Sitka deer, but much smaller than our local Muleys.
Last year I shot a yearling for freezer fodder, so I prolly shouldn't talk much.
Oh, and trooper: in some parts we actually shoot deer, instead of just eating roadkill.

Well done in providing for your family. We have deer roaming around in our back yard. Venison has been on the menu here a few times. Makes great chili verde.
Again, outstanding!
PS the exit hole that a 30.06 makes is enough to render a deer useless.

In a cull, the size of the beast only matters to people with self-esteem issues. You take what's there, and that's all there is to it.

My word! The post's been up for two days and there's none of the usual futile rantings and meaningless death threats from the tofu wearing fraternity.
Mr FM, I fear you're losing your touch.
