Firearms Friday: Firearms Ownership II
These are the results of yesterdays polling & apologies to those of you that had difficulty voting. As I type this, the techies responsible are being tied across the muzzles of 18-pounder cannons. But to get back to the actual question, I see that a third of you don’t own a firearm ... kindly see me after class.
Now this morning & by way of comparison, I would like to ask the same question as yesterday, how many firearms do you own, but this time direct that question to everyone outside the UK

Are you sure you want to know? Not sure I do, the green-eyed monster will ruin my day!

Must be something wrong there as I voted but then again there isnt an option for over 30?

I once purchased a .303 No4 Mark II in Ohio for about 120 bucks all told, but failed the NICS check.
Does that count?
Rusty.
PS I wasn't a pretty sight, blubbing like a baby I was....

Fantastic result - an almost perfect representation of Benford's Law. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benford's_law)

Ooops, oh no it isn't... Comment in haste, repent at leisure.

Understand, I've been actively collecting for over 40 years. Let's just say I need a spreadsheet to keep track.

See posts passim, but my collection stands at three rifles and two shotguns.
Apparently an importer here (Canada) has got a shipment of 70,000 SKSs on the way, so I shall certainly be getting one to add to my small collection! With that quantity prices should be negligible!

modern:
six handguns, three shotguns, four rifles
black powder:
one handgun, two rifles
Several of the handguns were inherited when my father passed away recently, and I am still debating selling a couple of them. But shouldn't every boy own a 1911-style Colt?

6 handguns.
1 shotgun.
6 rimfire rifles.
4 centerfire rifles.
Hmmm ... maybe I'm not quite as impoverished as I like to proclaim, but I still wish I had the funds to pursue the hobby better then I do. It isn't really the purchase cost, you see; just my little collection requires I maintain stocks of 8 different calibers (distinguishing .22lr from .22mag) - and I've been as careful as I could be to limit new acquisitions to a caliber I already shoot. I literally can't count the number of 9mm's I've passed on buying just in the last half dozen years as a result. I still have to keep talking myself out of buying a Justice (Taurus, not Department of same :)).

Two gunsafes full, plus some I can't fit in.
And a Lahti.

did I forget the shotguns?
3 shotguns

I am no statistician but would you expect the same results on, for instance, a BBC website?
I think the 30% non gun owners are the people who monitor your illustrious site on behalf of the orforrities.
I am just a 10%,er - one nice O/U and two cheap but effective S/As and loads of ammo.....

Uuuuummmm...
Let's just say that the combined total for Mrs. Drang and I is "over ten", as that's as high as your chart went.
Not to tell you how to run your survey, but when it comes to the States, you may want to track by geographical region as well as state: Western Washington. Not quite Kalipornia (yet) but not Idaho or Montana, either.

Man, this website is frickin' kick-ass find. It really warms my cold heart to know that there are, indeed, still English patriots in existence. You, sir, are a free man and you will have many friends in Canada come that glorious day.

too many guns to list and anyways, we don't know who's watching (;

Seven centrefires and a rimfire for me. All legally registered here in the People's Democracy of Outer Rannistan, once known as South Australia.
One thing that has always puzzled me, when you register your dog here, you get a bumper sticker that says "My Dog is Registered Because I Care". (No really, it's true.)
But get this, when you register a firearm, YOU DON'T GET A BUMPER STICKER!!!! I just think that's sinister.

2x .22 rimfires, one auto one single shot.
1x .308 Parker Hale Safari, M98 action
1x 1940 SMLE .303 sporterised Ishapore
1x H&R "Topper" single shot hammer shotgun
1x 1898 MLM rebarreled 1903 to MlE, missing wood, under restoration. Does anyone know here I can get a MLM set of wood and a nose cap/bayo lug?
so 5 shootables and a sixth under reconstruction. Plus I have my eyes on another few filly wooded SMLEs.

3 .22s, none of them terribly accurate or exciting
1 .17 hmr, TERRIBLY acurate and very exciting, great for gophers and coyotes within 225 yds.
2 Lee Enfield .303s, one original and one sporterised and customised, used for most hunting purposes.
1 Pre-60s Model 1894 30/30, shoots as good as ever
1 Russian SKS
3 12 gauges, Browning autoloader, Remington autoloder and a defender
1 war-time Walther p-38

I am going shooting tommorrow, my AR needs to be shot, so does the garand. The 1911 always is brought along, a coupla .38s, for the children of course. Let's see, a Weatherby XXII and a .22 conversion for the AR, should be about right. Hmm, I haven't open either safe yet, too crowded and I would feel the need to either clean/oil or shoot most of them. I'll pass and leave well enough alone.
Mr. FM you are an inspiration to us all.

Honesty compelled me to leave off the guns belonging to the kids and to The Mrs., even though they're all under my roof, as it were. Hell, the Son & Heir alone has three handguns (not counting his competition pistols), a .22 rifle and a Swedish M96 Mauser. Of course, he knows how to OPERATE all the guns in the house, as do all the kids.
Let's just say our family is comfortably-armed, can handle just about anything short of an armored assault, and leave it at that.

Five dozens plus in two residences - 13 time zones apart, just in case the Zombies attacks....

We are armed.

As a former US Marine, I am well equipped to repel boarders. Several center and rimfire rifles, four or five sidearms. No scatterguns yet, but I'm looking. I'd like to find a nice old Winchester Model 12. Or maybe an old double barrel coach gun.

I do live in the southern USA, gun lover's heaven, so do forgive me for the list.
--6 semi-auto rifles, mostly nasty modern black battle rifles
--18 bolt action rifles, all but one being military rifles from 1890 to 1955.
--5 semi-auto pistols, from turn-of-the-century to modern actions
--2 revolvers, mostly WW2 vintage
--1 trench shotgun, M1897 copy
--Bayonets, slings, extra magazines for all
--Lots and lots of ammo, but never enough
--And several deactivated firearms, mostly MG parts sets on inert display
Needless to say, I am well prepared for whatever comes my way. And none have to be registered per my state's law, and none ever will be.
Cheers--PB in the Commonwealth of Virginia
