The pioneer in high speed, spark photography and creator of many iconic imnges (bullet through apple, milk drop inpact, etc) was Dr Harold Edgarton, PhD, of MIT. He later collaborated with Cousteau developing the high candlepower strobes needed by deep underwater photography, gaining the nickname aboard the Calypso of "Papa Flash"
