More trigger time

I am not going to write some long boring report about Friday’s Bisley trip – the main job was to get the Mauser properly zeroed

& lets just say, job done

The only thing that spoilt the day was...

... some of my fellow club members who insist upon completely obscuring the firing point with their bondooks

I am never quite sure if they never hit the target because of all of the smoke or

maybe because they never hit the target they want to ensure that none of the rest of us can either!

That's looks like one thoroughbred piece of engineering!

I had a go on an army range with a 762 target rifle many years ago. More or less a novice, I had no idea about the kind of recoil it delivers (compared to an L85). The fact I that I had to tie the flipping thing to my forearm before firing it off should have given me a clue, I suppose. But it was fun after the initial shock!

The school I worked for at the time won Bisley the same year, I recall. No thanks to me :)

Love your blog, btw.

In terms of range "companions", these old farts with their charcoal-burning smokepoles are almost as anti-social as people with muzzle brakes.

Personally, I blame NuLabour.

Beat them at their own game. Show up with a 45-70 chambered gatling gun. On a calm day you would put the whole range into a fog bank for 15 minutes.

There is a certain satisfaction in using an old percussion or flintlock weapon

I suppose it is like the enjoyment of driving my classic MG as opposed to a modern sports car.

Yes, there is the probability of misfire but it is frankly quite satisfying to use an older musket correctly and safely

However, one must be aware of one's companions and ensure that they are not unduly inconvenienced by the smoke produced and let the "modern" shooter have the weather gauge.

"... let the "modern" shooter have the weather gauge."

You must be imbibing a controlled substance.

Cheers
