Back in the 1970s some of the crowd I hung with liked British bikes. Of course the had thrown away the SU carbs,used string and silicon sealant to seal the case, and had replaced most of the Prince of Darkness electrical bits. Most slowly gave up though and had ceremonial burials of their Whitworth tools.

Please remember that Japan was a valuable ally during the first world war, and barring an unfortunate aberration for fourteen years from 1931 has been on good terms with the UK since the Meiji restoration 0f 1867. Italy was an ally during the first world war and at the end of the second- and would have struggled to unite without British support during the risorgimento. In short he's as patiotic as any other Englishman who has a foreign great grandfather (and that's most of us, if we recognise the independence of Ireland).
I do believe he'd be more sensible if he got a Hinckley Triumph- maybe a 675 or the Sprint 1050, no point in struggling with the prince of darkness.
