Burka Britain & a bit more French fun: Que reste-t-il de la culture francaise?
Last year, I was moved to point out that in 2007, the French taxpayer spent 3 billion Euros on matters culturel or if you like, Eur. 208 for every French citizen in what amounts to a cultural welfare state. You would think that by now the world has enough pretentious film noir but the self elected elite of our nearest neighbour clearly don’t think so. That however is entirely their own business & if the French taxpayer wants to fund more satirical mimes that criticise government wastefulness, that is entirely their own business. In my most humble of opinions, a complete lack of transgender theatre workshops is a very positive step in the right direction but then again you really cannot expect a country that drives on an unnatural side of the road to remain objective about such matters when as a society it is busy reinterpreting cubism from the existential perspective
Now whilst were are touching upon perspective, a year ago...
President Sarkozy threw his weight yesterday behind attempts to bar French Muslim women from covering their faces in public, calling their full-body dress a “debasement of women”. Mr Sarkozy made his attack on a small but growing number of fundamentalist women in a “state of the nation” speech...
“In our country we cannot accept that women be prisoners behind a screen, cut off from all social life, deprived of all identity,” Mr Sarkozy said to applause in the parliament’s ceremonial Versailles home. “The burka is not a religious sign. It is a sign of subservience, a sign of debasement,” he added. “It will not be welcome on the territory of the French Republic.”

Of course there were those who decried Sarko saying that this was all a populist stunt & given that France’s Mohammadans are even more oversensitive than a Welshman with a grievance, this might indeed be a thinly veiled (please forgive the pun) attempt to pump prime the domestic auto industry. Normally, the sight of a mere croissant is such an offence against Islam that yoooofs are on the streets torching cars with gay abandon. Therefore slagging off black tents must surely ensure that Renault dealerships will be selling lots of replacement vehicles once the annual 11 month long rioting season ends
On this side of the channel predictably there has been & there won’t be any such debate because Islamo-appeasers deem the topic it to be too racist/offensive etc etc etc but...
Imagine this scene at the next State Opening of Parliament. The Queen is standing in front of the assembled Lords and Commons, reading from the speech prepared for her by the Prime Minister. "My Government," she says in that familiar high-pitched but colourless voice, "will ban the burka. It is not welcome in Britain. In our country we cannot accept that women be prisoners behind a screen."

Far fetched?? Well not exactly
The burka and other face-covering veils worn by Muslim women should be banned, the UK Independence Party says. Ex-UKIP leader Nigel Farage, who leads UKIP's 13 MEPs in Brussels, told the BBC's Politics Show they were a symbol of an "increasingly divided Britain"
OK, so this is only UKIP at the moment but the topic is now being hotly debated on this side of the Channel & at what point did it become the business of government what people do & do not wear no matter other stupid or even naff, come to that

A side note:
Well in the interest of "fairness, equality, and solidarity" and effective and efficient government, I've been writing my US congressman trying to get him to sponsor a law that all elected members of the federal government must wear a uniform. Specifically a Japanese high school girl's uniform with the skirt at least 6 inches above the knee.
There is the faint chance that it would keep them from trampling puppies in their races to get in front of camera's.
"My what a pretty hair ribbon you have there Senator Schummer. Did you get it from Speaker Pelosi?"

Sarko only pays lip service to these things. To say that it is a sign of debasement is very PC, but has he got the balls to say that it is an outward sign of the gradual takeover of France as well as Britain by Islam and its fellow travellers? Geert Widers in Holland is winning votes, and gradually the BNP in this country too, despite an onslaught by the media and all other political parties, who would prefer to bury their head in the sand. Sarkozy if you like is the "French UKIP", a safety valve that prevents Messrs Wilders and Griffin taking over. The bit I don't understand is why people believe all the nonsense, bullshit and lies that they are fed about nationalist and anti-Islamic take over politicians.BY 2050, GIVEN BIRTH RATE STATISTICS OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN WILL PROBABLY LIVE IN AN ISLAMIC REPUBLIC.

Just as a minor point of order... wouldn't Ireland be considered your nearest neighbor?
I'm just waiting for the first European burka-clad suicide bomber, myself.
