I am also very surprised at the racism implied in Mr Porritt's comments.

Most european countries now have birth rates that are only kept high by immigrants from cultures where large families are considered normal and healthy.

Most african and asian countries have significantly higher birth rates than europe so I expect to see Mr P making these potentially inflamatory points to the leaders of ethnic communities in the Europe and of course, directly to both the governments and people of countries such as India, Bangladesh, most of Africa as well as SE Asia...or possibly not if he wants to retain his guardian readership and not be the subject of a an illegal religious death sentence

Last time I checked most european countrys were shrinking, and the only population growing was that of the immigrants. If the problem ins't with the natives, then Mr Green pants would have to bark at the muslims and gang, what is something that I doubt very much.

This is actually rather old news in the States, where university-based Population Bomb campaigners convinced the traditional middle class (yes, they were of European extraction, since you ask) to reach negative population growth in the early 70's. We, silly, expected the population to decrease slightly. As it turned out, the campaigners were not preaching the same gospel to other demographic groups. Although this certainly must have been due only to those groups being oppressed into a smaller presence on the campus ahem, the result is that Euro-Americans are projected to be a minority by about 2020. They have been replaced, for the most part, by new immigrants, who are not, you may notice, from Europe. This may be only a coincidence.

Wake up you lot, think about this for 30 seconds, when do you suggest we do draw the line when were all paddling in the sea? It's got nothing to do with ethnic groups or religion, Hav'nt you seen what rabbits will do to there environment when they outbreed its capacity nevermind us destructive humans, supply and demand runs the human existance and look what's happening to the forrests oceans and the air we breathe, we should "cut back and clean up` replace your own numbers and that's it, there were no waiting lists for hospital, schools, doctors when I was a kid, no waiting for ever on the end of a phone to get proccessed etc. Generally speaking them with a swarm of kids are leaching off the rest of us. Why should I pop in my energy saving bulbs when someone down the road is heating water etc for there multitude and running there kids to-and-fro in their people carriers, sorry but that's my thoughts.
