Can anyone think of reason why not?

I can think of many reasons why.

I dont like .243 but you can always get a 6.5x55 barrel for it much better bigger range of bullet weights.

I already have a .308 which knocks out 150 grain soft noses that will take down anything in these fair Isles.

I am now after sometime a little smaller - for lil bambis & vermin, local council employees etc

243 being the obvious choice

Not a bad plan for local conditions ... out here I would suggest a .25-06 ... and ditch the moderator.

Are you going to load the .243 into subsonic?

With 100 grain bullets it would take down small deer nicely. Does well on all the varmints except possibly boar and feral hogs. Those need head shots with small cannons. It is a popular first rifle caliber for women and kids in Texas.
Also popular with old farts who have had enough recoil pounding thank you very much.

With that scope, action, and flat shooting caliber you would be the critter sniper king. The only noise would be the crack of the bullet but that would only bother a critter that you missed. With that slick fast action the follow up shot should take of the problem.

I disagree with adj, for once, even though I'm an unabashed fan of the 6.5x55mm (I have guns for both in the old safe).

The .243 Win is a wonderful light cartridge: fast, flat and versatile. With light loads (75-90gr), it absolutely screams and would be a perfect Foxy load. With the 100gr pill, you get extra distance (especially in the wind) and extra oomph, and it can take most small deer without apology. (I once popped a springbok at about 300 yards with the latter; it took two steps, fell over.)

Remember: you've got a teeny little boolet being powered by a .308 Win casing. Hubba hubba.

Rifle's not bad, either.

You're a fellow fellow of the sinister persuasion? Excellent!

I used one on my DSC1 in .243. I found the bolt action a little strange I suggest you try it and the safety before you part with the cash. You have no mag so rounds through the top and I like a mag but it is personnal taste. I think these are marmite guns you love them or hate them.
As to .243 for small deer and fox its fine look at the chart for the 55gm balistic tip how flat and fast is that, a charlie round and a half. Then you can buy s .270 barrel and you will be sorted.

Good luck whatever you decide you just can't have enough guns.
