Smokers unfit to parent
Smokers in a north-east London borough will not be able to foster children from January 2010 - unless there are "exceptional circumstances". The ban was passed on Tuesday evening by Redbridge councillors who voted unanimously in favour of the policy. Redbridge Council wants to protect children from "the damaging effects of passive and second-hand smoke".
So by that standard your humble correspondent would be barred from fostering a child, whereas Paul Gadd could be eligible.

I'd invite you to move here to The States, but I suspect that, soon enough, the difference will simply be in which side of the road we drive on and how we spell certain words.
Where's that damned scotch...?

Oh good grief. The horrific effects of second-hand smoke are nothing to the effects of statist brainwashing from Child Services, but I digress.
I don't smoke, but that is just nuts. Especially if the foster parents are stellar in every way.
My neighbor is a foster mother, and a darn good one. She smokes and the young lad she is raising, along with her own children is a good lad and one that associates with my children because I KNOW the quality of his fostering.
