You want copy watch? ... handbag?... Segway?
Hongkie Town (one of HKs more worthy blogs) points out both the problem of what we shall politely call (ahem) Chinese pricing & their ability to produce knock off copies of just about anything
A fear of modern-day pirates is stopping action film star Jackie Chan Kong-sang from hitting it big in his dealership for the Segway scooter. Segways owners will not let him assemble the two-wheel battery-powered vehicle in the mainland. Theyre afraid of people stealing the technology, Chan said at an expo in Wan Chai. Chan is not, of course, selling Segways for the money, but because they offer clean technology and are so cool.
As HT points out, Mr Chan wants to sell Segways because they offer clean technology & are so cool … not because Mr Chan’s Segways cost twice what they cost in the USA.
As for the whole concept of the Chinese stealing the technology & producing cheap fakes … dear readers, that reminds me of the Ballard of the copy Rolls Royce but I think that I will save that little story for the morrow
