Wireless Networks
Remember this …
Children should not place computers on their laps while they are using wireless internet connections because of potential health risks, according to a leading Government adviser. Professor Lawrie Challis, who heads the committee on mobile phone safety research, called yesterday for pupils to be monitored amid mounting public concern over emissions from wi-fi networks.
Well now it seems that Concerned of Tunbridge Wells & her ilk have stopped writing hysterical letters to The Guardian & instead have adopted a policy of direct action ... in a pretty major way

What is the story behind the photo?

Bill - The picture is of the Admiral Graf Spee, taken during the early months of WWII, when she was operating as a commerce raider in the South Atlantic (& of course, before she was scuttled following the Battle of the River Plate).
I came across it recently when I was hunting around for additional information for the On This Day entries for both the battle itself & also, the Admiralty’s subsequent covert ‘purchase’ of the wreck for intelligence gathering purposes.

I hope all the mobile, Wii, Xbox wireless use causes infertility, save the state a shed load of kiddie payments.

Laptops causing infertility?
Unless you keep it there for 8 hours a day, every day fro 10 years, the .25watts from the wireless card and its frequency radiation would simply not contribute much.

Bill, the message was from the Graf Spee, a German battleship to the Doric Star wireless operator to stop transmitting a distress call. More here http://www.bluestarline.org/doric.html

I seem to remember a number of instructors at Comm school saying that RF would wipe out your Y chromosomes. Never knew if it was true, but if so, I think I'll be paying for some weddings then.

I don’t know about RF but certainly to this day, it is not unusual to see "RADHAZ IS DADHAZ" signs in warships. I believe that this primarily relates to emissions from the radar screens.
However, FM Towers is situated close to SPTA, the UK military's largest domestic training area. On Tuesday & Thursdays, its night flying for the Apaches & the use the village’s church tower as a turning mark as they run in on to the Larkhill Artillery Range. This is all well & good, but you know when one is coming because the TV signal all but disappears - so goodness only knows what they are emitting!
