& in the spirit of today’s Teutonic theme…
We have looked before at one or two of the rather (cough cough) more interesting weapons that are currently coming out of Germany at the moment, such as this excellent H&K MP5 clone.
Now as EX_STAB points out, this copy of the legendary Sturmgewehr MP-44 is becoming available.
Whilst we would all like to see it in a more mainly cartridge than .22LR, the advantage is that in this smaller calibre, it is fully UK legal in semi-auto format. At EUR. 1749, it is certainly ssssspendy but surely that is a mere bagatelle when compared to the pleasure that you would have owning one

A great looking piece of kit...it may be enough to get me off my rear to buy it.

The Germans put a good amount of human engineering into the design. A friend has a WW 2 one in 8mm Kurz. (papered and legal) It is very comfortable to shoot, even in full auto. Much nicer than full auto in an AK. Until recently you could not buy ammo or cases. Forming the cases from 30-06, 308, 8mm, 243 or 270 brass is a 4 step process. One does not want to lose too many cases at the range.

Interested to learn that semi-aut .22 seems acceptable in the UK. To own one in South Australia, we need special reasons - usually a primary producer needing to control vermin. But that is at the discretion of the Registrar of Firearms, and his discretion can change from time to time. So most semi-autos were cashed-in at the time of the great gun buy-back. I handed in a Ruger 10/22, and used the money to buy a lever action with a larger magazine and a scope. On t'other hand, I still have a trio of target handguns, including a semi-auto .22! Politicians! Who needs them?

What a nice lookign gun! Even in .22 it would be swell to quell the population of soviet squirrels.

Ooooh, I think I just came in my pants!! I didn't even know that .22LR was legal here in the UK. And I thought I'd have to wait until I was over in South Carolina with my fiance before I'd be allowed to fire a real boomstick...
Now all I have to do is find a spare thousand pounds or so...
