"When Harry met Tali" *

Prince%20Harry%20Afghanistan.jpg

Well good on Prince Harry for not giving up & badgering the MoD until they let him go & do the job that he has been trained to do. However it is worth pointing out that in 1982 Prince Andrew joined 820 Naval Air Squadron, serving aboard the aircraft carrier, HMS Invincible & was sent ‘down south’.

Throughout the Falklands War he flew on various missions, including Anti-Submarine Warfare and Anti-Surface Warfare search, exocet missile decoy, as well as other missions. He also helped in casualty evacuation, transport and was involved in some highly dangerous Search and Air Rescue missions.

Is it just me or was there a lot less fuss in the press about that particular deployment? Clearly the media or at lest the weight that the media attaches to stories has changed a lot since 1982.

Its interesting to ponder however, that our Royal Family keep a discreet silence & send their sons to war, when so ordered. The same certainly can’t be said for our politicians or their families.

Nice wall decoration... I still think the SA80 should be scrapped and L1A1s brought back however. And Steyrs scrapped and L1A1s brought back down here in NZ.

A puzzler this. I tend to the view that Harry is seen as some sort of liability by the Royals. He seems to have genuine qualities of humanity about him, albeit that he is currently levelling weaponry at the enemy of the month. The oft whispered comments that his father must be someone other than Charles are not easily dismissed. Resemblance to Charles would seem non-existant. So, with conspiratorial hat firmly in place, it could be seen that they quietly allowed him over there because should any harm come to him, they wouldn't be too upset. A callous comment yes, but this is a callous family in many ways.

It's also interesting to note that unlike the Falklands, Afghanistan is the world's primary cultivator of poppies and its attendant dark fruits. Since the re-invasion of that savage land, the poppy crop has grown tremendously, all done under the watchful eye of the MI5 and CIA management corporation. Harry would be thrilled to know that he is effectively acting as an enforcer for the worldwide drug cartel in which his own family has a long and notable tradition; see opium, China, boxer rebellion etc. It's difficult to fund your dark hobby of global control without a good supply of off the books cash and the poppy industry meets that need perfectly. They've also managed to have their little joke by having the poppy be both the symbol of remembrance day and the symbol of spiritual devastation. How the Cryptocracy love a good laugh. At our expense of course. And Harry's.

Opinions, of course, are like ass holes. Everyone has one and a lot of them stink

rhys..nice post..I'm going to lie down now as you have completely shaken my beliefs...you know so much and I apparently so little...dickhead!

I think the press would have made as big a deal over Andy in the Falklands, if communications during the conflict had been as open as they are nowadays.

Listening to Max Hastings whingeing about how Maggie was impudent enough to announce victory in the House of Commons, instead of handing it to her betters in the fourth estate (such as Max Hastings), reminded me why she was prime minister and he was a wet hack.

Harry seems a throwback. The genes that made his ancestors worthy of being kings are showing in Harry.

I'm certainly liking his choice of headgear in this photo:

I think that is the same ball cap that in another photo says "Doing bad things to bad people" on the back.

Being an American I find it admirable that the Royals do their bit in fighting the savages. Sets an example for the rest of the country and at least from what I read the Prince just wanted to do his job as a soldier. Too bad none of our US politicians find it necessary to send their children off to fight, except maybe Mc Cain who has a son in the Marines. I myself served 21 years and have a son with 2 tours in Iraq under his belt. In comparison zee Germans hide the facts of their troops in Afghanistan, like they aren't doing their part by staying up North.
Anyway its sorry the f***ing press kept a man from doing his duty.

A Yank in Germany

What got your tail in a twist Thud? I've used the steyr, nice light rife, and better ballistics witht he long barrel the bullpup allows than the short M-4 does. but the 5.56 just isn't lethal enough. go look at youtube, theres clips of jihadis gettign hit 5, 6, 7, 8, or more times with 5.56 and not going down, worse, still firing. The 7.62 may be bigger with more recoil, and the L1A1 heavier to carry, and ammo amounts less for the weight... But the bad guys are far more likely to go down when hit in the same place than Vs the 5.56.

Besides... do you really thin that modern soldiers are wimps and too weak to carry the rifle their fathers managed?

Rhys...my abject apologies...my post was directed at the one below yours...possibly the dickhead may be me!

Ah... Apology accepted.

Do you think I could find some of what Paul is smoking? it seems pretty strong stuff :)

The fact that Harry and his uncle did their duty speaks well of setting the right example to defend one's country.

I have no problem with his
type of role model.

Better than that dissipated shark Keith Richards

I think part of the difference between Harry and "Uncle Andy" is that the Argies would probably not have tortured him to death and uploaded the video to Al Gore's interweb, if they'd captured Andy.

Just my opinion.

It speaks well of him that he lobbied vigorously to be deployed with his unit. It would be a shame to allow him to train as a soldier, then refuse him the right to put that training to good use. He sets a good example.

Rhys, have you served? If so slap yourself. Tools are only tools.
