Friday mornings round up
AJDS points out that even if their sentiment is right ( Petition against the nomination of Tony Blair as "President of the European Union" )
We, European citizens of all origins and of all political persuasions, wish to express our total opposition to the nomination of Tony Blair to the Presidency of the European Council.
I cant say that I agree or even follow a lot of their reasoning – however the last thing that any of us want to see is anymore of Mr Blah … or his ever ghastly wife. There, it isn’t very often that you find me agreeing with Yurp.
Meanwhile in the RSA
A "national electrical emergency" has been declared in South Africa where power cuts are affecting millions of people and casting doubt over plans to host the football World Cup in 2010. The power cuts mean commuters must navigate intersections with no working traffic lights. Authorities on Friday outlined steps to combat the problem that is stirring anxiety about the future of the largest economy in Africa.
The power has gone off across the country frequently in the last few weeks -- sometimes for up to five hours at a time -- as demand exceeds supply. President Thabo Mbeki has admitted that his government failed to plan properly after being warned about possible shortages years ago.
As Alan in Jo'burg points out
