Who ate all the pies? – Part 2: Responsibility & Blame
On the BBC’s website this morning is a further article about our collectively increasing waistbands, which in many ways sums up the worst that Blighty has to offer at the moment …
Individuals can no longer be held responsible for obesity so government must act to stop Britain "sleepwalking" into a crisis, a report has concluded.
Now I freely admit that I weigh too much, but I do so for one reason & one reason only: over the last twenty years or so, pretty much on a daily basis, I have consumed more calories than my body needs given my sedentary & slothful lifestyle.

I loosened my belt yet another notch before sitting down to my full fried breakfast this morning but clearly in the prevailing all-must-have-prizes culture, it isn’t my fault … which is nice. However, why exactly can’t individuals be held responsible if they are obese & why the hell is the government trying to apportion ‘responsibility’ in the first place?
First, if I am a gut-bucket, surely that is my business & my business only or when I was last down out the Colonel’s ordering a mega phuque-it bucket of fried chicken did a law get passed that says that my body is now property of the state? Do we all have to be fit & healthly to a prescribed government level so that we can produce lots of good little Nu Labour voting babies? I seem to recall that the German’s tried that sort of thing in for about ten years during the last century. It ended very badly
Next off, what exactly do these numpties mean when they say
Individuals can no longer be held responsible for obesity
So, I am no longer ‘responsible’ for the lamentable state of my BMI? Why, what happened? Does evil Ronald McDonald creep into my bedroom at night & force feed me McLard burgers against my volition? Of course I am bl**dy well responsible for the lamentable state of my fetid carcass
In fact its nice to see that even the president of Royal College of Physicians, Ian Gilmore is getting involved in this latest bout of flab fascism
The emphasis on cross-governmental initiatives is particularly welcome, as is the importance of addressing issues across society whilst avoiding blame
Can’t have any blame can we … might hurt peoples feelings after all. Besides, what exactly are they being ‘blamed’ for?
All of this smacks of the government trying to stick its nose further & further into peoples own private business. There isn’t a single facet of peoples lives that Westminster wants to regulate & control because it will not trust anyone to make their own lifestyle choices. Wait for it, Ration Books will be back before you know it.
Comments

Some beggar keeps sneaking into my bedroom and force feeding me bambi bangers and bambi burgers, they must be as I wake up in the morning with no recollection at all of eating them and a strange headache type feeling. Perhaps its the sloe gin or finest irish, who knows and who cares? I pay my taxes thats all that matters!
