Wifle woes
Last Friday was, somewhat lamentably, the first time that I had the opportunity to take my new Savage down to the range & give it a proper rousting. Thus far, its outings have been strictly limited of potting a few flopsy bunnies at an unsportingly close range. So a whole day at the National Shooting Centre, Bisley would afford ample opportunity to get the rig fully shaken down, properly zeroed & the moderator fully tested.
Anyway, to cut the lamentable story of a frustrating morning very short … it just wouldn’t shoot consistent groups & over lunch, our club chairman noticed that the bases of my spent rounds were all slightly ballooned … hummmmm, not good. A quick trip to Fulton’s revealed a few minutes later, that the headspace it completely wrong. Maybe that might go someway to explain why it wouldn’t feed properly – although I cant imagine that the barrel being a couple of thou out would cause feeding problems. Still, oh blackest of rages … the damn thing might be a right-off. So its now been returned to the dealer that I brought it form for a full assessment, but sadly, its not looking good.

If' it's a Savage model 10 or 110, the headspace is easily adjusted. It just takes a good vise, a barrel nut wrench and a set of headspace gauges.
But you shouldn't have to do it. It should have come from the factory properly headspaced. I haven't followed the Savage story - did you buy it new, or used? If used, it's possible that someone changed the barrel and did a really bad job of it.
