Good old Shagger, he's at it again

What’s this, Shagger Blunkett up to his usual tricks? – although for once it would appear that by some strange twist of fate he has managed to keep his trousers on, which makes a nice change. However in the finest traditions of Mr Blah’s reinstated cabinet ministers he has managed to screw up for a second time, or is that third time – echoes of Mandelson anyone? At least there is one thing that can be said for Shagger, unlike Mandy he certainly isn’t a ensconced on the alternative omlibus as he tries to sell this country down the Swanie whilst on the taxpayers nickle. However, it remains no mean feat, having been brought back to public office a mere six months after having to quit after the sex with other mens wives abuse of office scandal to break the eleventh commandment … yet again! Only in my little Toni’s Britain, dear friends.

Apparently this time Shagger has admitted breaking one of parliament's golden rules by writing on House of Commons stationery to oppose construction near a house he owns. Using official parliamentary headed letters for private business is strictly forbidden.

OK, so lets be honest here, unlike Tax & Waste Brown, he hasn’t been robbing widows & orphans pension funds in increasingly desperate attempts to finance poor Blightys towering public sector bureaucracy. Knocking out a few ‘angry of Whitehall’ letters is hardly a capital offence no matter whose notepaper its on – although in the case of socialist control freak politicians, it should be made so. It’s the contents of the letters that should cause greater concern.

A copy of a letter from Blunkett seen by Reuters shows that he wrote to Wandsworth Council planners in south London last month objecting to plans to cut down trees and shrubs to build houses near a home he owns.

"As a former resident of Fulwood Walk which abuts Clevedon Lodge, I am deeply concerned about the effect on wildlife, on quiet enjoyment of the area and on the ecology," Blunkett wrote.

Nowhere in the letter does Blunkett mention that he still owns the neighbouring property, and therefore has a personal financial interest in any construction that might take place nearby. The letter is on House of Commons paper and is signed "David Blunkett, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, MP for Sheffield Brightside".

Now according to Shaggers latest spin doctor, he does not object to the development itself, only the cutting down of shrubs and trees.

"Mr Blunkett does not oppose the development. However, after being approached by local residents, he expressed his concerns about its environmental impact,"

… which a slightly ironic really because his chum Dept Prime Minister ‘Two Jags’ Prescott is currently hell bent on destroying what little countryside is left in South East England by throwing up scores of faceless boxes that are no doubt intended to be sold to the growing legion of civil servants / Nu Labour voters.

However looked in a different light a less benign person than your humble correspondent might say that it’s the same old Blunkett - last time he was screwing some journo – this time he is trying to shaft the chairman of the local planning authority. Guilty or not? I will leave it to you to decide. Unlike B.liar’s Britain, in this dark & damp little corner of the internet, having your own opinions is encouraged.
