Miscellaneous (shooting related) stuff

Your humble correspondent is currently suffering, doing gun ‘cold turkey’. Fridays trigger time at Bisley had to been cancelled due to, for once, having to stay sober & do some work. You know, the usual stuff – asset stripping of defunct UK car manufacturers, asset stripping of defunct third world countries, exploitation of child labour … oil for food deals etc etc.

Having been denied my Friday fix & to make up for missing the happy crackle of gunfire, eldest nipper & I sallied forth early on Saturday evening to spank some bunnies. Were there any, were there heck! Well as you can see, there was one …

… one mangy already half dead bunny – still, it was churlish not to! Its what happened next that is still assuming me.

There was a complete look of disappointment on the Free Markette’s face when firstly he didn’t have to finish it off with my ‘priest’. Despite being informed that the carcass was leaking like Gordon tax & waste Brown’s budget proposals, he definitely wanted to go & bash the damn over the head. So, in an attempt to avoid yet another 7 year old temper tantrum (son having forgotten that I still had 9 rounds in the magazine) I said that he could stab the thing …just to check that it really was dead, as I walked off further up the field.

5 minutes later, son & heir reappears with a stick absolutely covered in blood, brains, snot & gore, announcing that this was his ‘evidence stick’ & that he was taking it home to show Mummy!

I love my kids, they are just so bloodthirsty!

Sunday morning saw more construction works for our new game pen. A bit more chainsaw coppicing. Now this might look like a pile of sticks, but when our pheasants arrive in August, these little piles will keep them cozy & warm, until such time as …. Lets now go there just at the moment.

You remember this chap, who downed his first pheasant just after Christmas despite the advice that was being given to him by your humble correspondent?

Well since then he has been a busy fellow. Two weeks ago he shot his first rabbit with my old single barrel .410 10 days ago we went off to a local gunshop & bought him a Lamber 12G over & under, as well as a single barrelled 12G for vermin control

A week ago, once more with the finest advice close at hand, he christened the single barrel with a rabbit & later that evening, a young fox. Last Wednesday night, he & his new Lamber opened its account with another rabbit.

Well done to you on joining the ranks to stout gun owning bulldogs.
