So the elections loom in Zimbabwe – as usual Zappa FU thugs (or whatever the hell they are called) will, beat, intimidate, torture & murder to get Pres. M back into power. Another victory for African democracy; still – twas ever thus! Or at least it has been since the lunatic left & misguided liberals in the West handed power to one of the more unpleasant dictators that Africa has produced recently.
Aside from the fact that Pres M looks dreadful in uniform (& what is the point of being a dictator if epaulets don’t show your shoulders off nicely?), his apologists have absolutely no sense of humour. Recently, in The Times, there was a fabulous letter entitled ‘Leave us alone’ from one Stan Mutsatsa, who clearly dislikes all of us bulldog imperialists …

“For what possible reason should the West intervene? To protect the interest of a few white people in Zimbabwe? Africans get very irritated when we hear lectures on democracy from our former oppressors and abusers of our human rights. It is this sort of arrogance, that somehow it is the white man who can bring about civilisation, that has created so much havoc. The West should leave other countries to shape their own destinies.”

Mr Mutsatsa gave his address, without irony, as,

“Wallington, Surrey”
