Trigger Agony
Yesterday was one of those few occasions when I really really didn’t want to wake up with a hangover – as father & son were on a mission down at the gun shop to collect my new Remy 700. To be completely honest, I had never handled the VS version before & had to order it blind – however deep & enduring joy as we opened the box. Now some of you might not be the greatest fans of synthetic stocks, but I really like both the look & feel of the VS’s. Because it is I suppose, mid way between a true ‘sporter’ & a ‘varmint’ model the fore end is more flared than usual – giving I my most humble of opinions a more comfortable hold.
So, £725 plus a little bit more for 60 Ferderal Power Shocks, my latest acquisition was safety ensconced in the back of the Landrover en route to … errr… the trigger man. After my experiences with the new 10/22 last week, I took the precaution of having both booked in for a tune up.
So we got both rifles onto the bench & whilst the Remy broke crisply at 8lbs 2 oz, the Ruger was a creepy 9lbs ish ! I know that trigger pulls are now set by lawyers rather than engineers, but hasn’t this all gone a little too far?? Still instructions have been issued & parts ordered – so here hoping for a brace of crisp 4lb breaks in a couple of weeks.
And this is the agony, the Remy won’t get its first outing for 2 weeks – till we get back from holiday – 2 weeks ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Oh well, I suppose its one of the sacrifices that we all have to make from time to time – but over 2 weeks until I get a chance to shoot it …
