Cold Steel
The Sun leads today with the story of a now famous infantry action in Iraq. Interestingly, it seems that our Toms used their bayonets. I recall that recently, the MoD issued a statement denying that 'cold British steel' was used...agendas anyone??

And the Argylls keep getting blamed for 'sticking it up them!' when it was the PWRR.
The only agenda is probably to save money in that bayonets in future are to be used to save ammo......

Way to go guys and Dave, stop being a jerk. These men exhibited two of the finest traits a soldier has: courage and loyalty to his fellows. As a mother of a soldier in the US 101st Airborne Air Assult, I salute you all.

2 things spring to mind.
1 - I don't much trust the Sun as an authoritative source.
But 2 - on the other hand a recurring theme in defence establishments across the Western world recently has been the possibility of abolishing the bayonet as obsolete. If the bayonet incident turns out to be true, it may be rather inconvenient regarding decisions already made in private in Whitehall - difficult to announce the phasing out of the bayonet when this story is thrumming across the airwaves.
