4,000,000 Rounds

We have all read this story & thought, golly, thats a lot of ammuntion - well here is a little statistic that I read last night.

During the Battle of Normandy, C Coy 2nd Kennsingstons, supporting a battalion attack fired 500,000 rounds of MMG ammunition in a day - i.e. through their Vickers machine guns. Now that was only one company on one day. 4,000,000 rounds suddenly doesn't sound quite so much !

How many MMG in a Co? 6?

That's a lot of firing time.

That's what most astonishes me about Overlord: the frightening logistics it involved to push that many armies ashore.
