True Colours

Yesterday, I was reminded of Monty Pythons “Life of Brian” - the alms for an ex-leaper scene where Brian (Graham Chapman) is talking to the ex-leaper (Michael Palin). At the end of the conversation, Chapman remarks, having heard Palin complain that he did not want to be cured,
“Some people are never happy”.

I have long poked fun at the “greenies”. It is not the beards, sandals & wind chimes that annoy me. At times, I can even forgive them peddling their bad science & unproven theories. I confess to finding their body piercings assuming to say the least – (pass me the electro-magnet) & as for the funny coloured hair, I shudder to think what chemicals they are using to achieve that. What really gets to me is that they all so miserable & always worrying and that this worry somehow makes them more worthy than say bloated plutocrats such as myself. Still, I thought that yesterdays wind energy statements would have them would have had them dancing in the woods – in of course, a non-judgemental, environmentally sustainable manner

In summary, 15 offshore wind farm sites were announced and in the accompanying White Paper, the Government committed itself to producing 10% of the UK’s energy requirement from renewable resources by 2010; rising to 20% by 2020. (For the record, currently about 3% of the UK’s energy is from renewables)

The new Energy Bill will enable wind farm developers to construct farms out at sea. Three of the new developments are fully outside territorial waters and include the world's largest proposed offshore wind farm in the Greater Wash area of up to 250 turbines, about 25 miles off the Lincolnshire Coast. The other sites are in the Thames Estuary and Greater Wash.

This however is not enough!!. Already the ‘environmentalists’ are complaining about the impact of these developments. For goodness sake, they will be out to sea!
I can understand, in my more sober & lucid moments why people do not want these farms built on the top of Scottish hills – even I admit, they are a little unsightly. But if the eco-lobby want us to untilise more renewable energy sources, how exactly do they expect us to do it, if they object to every proposal?

As for the impact (and for a change, I do know a bit about this as in the past I have looked at financing offshore wind farms) all the environmental impact assessments indicate that they actually promote sea life. Look at your average ship wreck – an instant reef. As for the sea birds – there is not a scrap of evidence to show that they fly into the sails.

The real agenda of the greenies is of course for us to go back to living in Celtic roundhouses as part of living history experiment - sorry your baby died Mr Free Market, the herb poultice didn’t seem to work! Oh and as for the greenies - they just never seem to be satisfied

Great post! Wouldn't you just love to load 'em all into a time machine and send them back twenty thousand years or so? It would be their utopia!
