The Decline of Great Britain

After what I have seen today (or not seen as the case is) I am firmly convinced that Great Britain is in terminal decline. Follow me on this one……..

My office is about 300 yards from the US Embassy in London, over looking Oxford Street. Today, the Stars & Stripes fly over Oxford Street, believe you me!! Jeering outside the window? The odd brick lobbed? Nothing – the populous is far to busy shopping to worry about political activism.

So it gets to lunchtime & I wander over to the Five Stars Café for a sensible lunch (sausage, bacon, egg, mushrooms, chips; a side of toast, all washed down with a steaming mug of tea). Replete and at this point 150 yards from Grosvenor Square, I decide to find some protests. I mean we have had sirens & helicopters all morning. So anyway, I wander all about the security cordon looking for Stop The War Stromtoopers & Anti-Globalisation Soap Dodgers……nothing!

The only demo, the only flag I have seen, surrounded by a dozen Arabs, said,
“British Iraqis Support President Bush”

It’s a disgrace. This country can no longer organise a recent riot. Even the French can manage it – Le Pen does well in the elections & within the hour, the cheese eating surrender monkeys have managed to kick off in fine style in Paris. Has our backbone gone? Are we not the sons of Bodacia?

The police are happy as hell – they’ll be paying off their credit card bills with the overtime they make this week.

I just hope the beardo the weirdo does better tomorrow & manages to cause, at least a modicum of trouble – to restore our faith in the fighting nature of the Anglo Saxon.

Mr. Free Market, you make me laugh. If the time ever does come that you have to leave the UK for a free country, I hope you can find one. I doubt the USA will fit the bill. This place is headed sraight for the crapper, too. Establishment of the Free State of Alabama may be necessary to provide a land of liberty to welcome you and yours.

I respectfully disagree with Phil's statement. I live in America, too, and I do not believe that the nation is "headed straight for the crapper". There are many of us in this country who stand, and will fight, for the continuation of our liberty. That is what makes America strong; the determination of The People.

Mr. Free Market, this is a lovely blog. I'm enjoying my visit immensely. Thank you for your honesty and your friendliness. As Sir Churchill said--and you already quoted, "We must also never allow...the growing sense of unity and brotherhood between the United Kingdom and the United States and throughout the English-speaking world to be injured or retarded."

Kind regards,
Linda

Love the blog. Reminds me of why there'll always be an England. Y'all are true blue.
