Write To Your MP

Well, politicans are always wanting to 'engage', so here's their chance. I thought that I'd drop a little line to Michael Howard, and being mindful that you normally only get responses from your own MP, I copied him in as well.

I'm not holding my breath on this one, but rest assured, I'll post any responses I get.

If fact, I might just drop a little note to Diane Abbott, given that she chairs the All Party Committee on Firearms. Not that she is noted for her integrity........

Rt Hon Michael Howard QC MP
House of Commons

Dear Mr Howard

Firstly, may I congratulate you on your recent appointment. I trust that the Party will now finally unite into robust opposition to the present Government achieve, with alacrity, electoral success.

In the past, I have been involved with the Young Conservatives, FCS and main Party. Like many “grass roots” members, I became disillusioned with the lack of moral turpitude displayed by the Parliamentary Party, of which you were a senior member, during John Major’s administration.

Of particular interest to me is a bill you introduced, the now infamous Firearms (Amendment) Act 1997. I recall your comment,

“The Government fulfilled its pledge to remove all handguns from the streets of Britain today…..”

Looking at all the statistics, the legislation has been an unmitigated failure. The populous are no safer, criminals have more guns than ever; all you achieved was the persecution of legitimate shooters, in an attempt to gain the approbation of the tabloid press.

Please can you confirm to me that if returned to power, this pernicious legislation will be repealed; and if not, why not?

Yours faithfully

"disillusioned with the lack of moral turpitude "

"Young Market - did you mean to say that or have we got too many negatives in there? Please write out the dictionary definition of "turpitude" 100 times and bring it to me in the SCR before rugger practice."

So, did you get an answer back to your letter?
